The eggs most people eat, in simple terms, consist of the “white” and the yolk. However, in the case of the Balut, the egg includes a half-developed duck fetus. Thus, when boiled and consumed, the consumer gets to enjoy a shell filled with a crunchy, feathered baby bird. Definitely not for the picky eaters among us, but popular in parts of Asia, the Balut provides a wealth of textures and protein in its own weird way.
